After much anticipation, Apple has released its latest operating system, iOS 12. This update focuses more on the stability of previous features instead of the addition of new ones. As per usual, Apple has failed to create another operating system without a variety of bugs.

According to Apple, iOS 12 is supposed to be “even faster, more responsive and more delightful.” But this isn’t the case. New updates mean new problems and iOS 12 has many of them, including issues with iMessage, photos, battery and more.

One of the few favorable features introduced in iOS 12 is the Memoji. Users of the iPhone X or any phone released after that have this feature.

The update attempted to make improvements to the text-messaging app, iMessage, but instead made it worse. Individuals’ contacts are being merged together. This is causing messages to be sent to the wrong people. This issue has left Apple users frustrated and regretting downloading this update.

Apple recently released the iPhone XS, iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max. These three phones are Apple’s latest products, and, therefore, are expected to work and function properly. Yet, with the installment of iOS 12, the iPhone XS and XS Max will not charge. Unless the iPhone is unlocked and on the home screen, plugging in the phone does nothing. This issue is said to be fixed in iOS 12.1, so hopefully, Apple will follow through.

An important use for an iPhone is making phone calls. The entire purpose for any phone, especially an iPhone, is to communicate via text messages, phone calls, FaceTime or other messaging apps. Forbes reported that a large amount of iOS 12 users have been experiencing problems when making phone calls. Individuals are struggling to make calls, experiencing calls fail altogether or facing issues regarding their mobile data.

One of the few favorable features introduced in iOS 12 is the Memoji. Users of the iPhone X or any phone released after that have this feature.

Aside from a few positive features, iOS 12 is filled with many flaws, and downloading this new update has been disappointing for many.

With Memoji, individuals are able to create an animated character. As stated by 9 to 5 Mac, one can customize a variety of characteristics including accessories, skin tone, hair color, hairstyle and eye color among various other features. When finished, individuals can record themselves as their Memoji and share it with others through text. The Memoji copies one’s facial expressions including blinking, sticking out their tongue and winking.

FaceTime has also improved through this update. The app FaceTime allows individuals to call one another and see each other on their screens. Users can now place filters, stickers, text and shapes on themselves while on FaceTime. In addition, users can also be their Memoji on FaceTime.

iPhones have had an evolving camera that has significantly improved with each new phone. Now, with the installment of iOS 12, photo quality has been degraded. According to Forbes, these issues include “poor quality contrast levels, unbalanced colors and overexposed black levels.” As taking pictures on one’s phone is very common these days, these difficulties must be fixed by Apple because they are creating frustration for users.

Aside from a few positive features, iOS 12 is filled with many flaws, and downloading this new update has been disappointing for many. Before downloading it, consider the defects of this new update. Having a problematic phone is not an ideal situation and waiting for iOS 12.1 to be released is a smarter decision.

The new Apple update, iOS 12, has many flaws that outweigh the benefits. Users should not update until iOS 12.1.
  • New Memoji feature
  • Made FaceTime more entertaining
  • iMessage merges contacts together
  • Battery problems
  • Phone calls fail
  • Degraded photo quality
