Driving down stirling road, it’s not uncommon for native Cooper City residents to be overtaken with feelings of nostalgia and loss. Where there were once chain-link fences encircling green pastures where cows grazed are now legions of bulldozers and their mountainous piles of dirt. With the decreasing amounts of livestock intermingling with city life, is our identity as a small town in the south  at steak?  Without these massive mammals, is Cooper City still someplace special?

Of course it is; though melodramatic, this article is not dishonest. But still, I can’t help but miss the cows meandering along the side of the road.  As most kids who grew up in this town do, I remember pressing my hands and face against the car window at about five years old, trying to spot calves and their mothers lounging in the grass.

Unfortunately, the peaceful cattle had to moo-ve over in favor of construction.  The beautiful development of Monterra, with its sumptuous buildings and fancy font, was once a field, home to dozens of cows.

“There were cows on the corner of pine island, cows on stirling. We used to drive by and shout “cows!” sophomore Hannah Cohen said. “Now there’s a Walmart.”

Though there’s nothing wrong with beefing up the commercial economy in Cooper City, the cows added irreparable charm to our little community.  Many are quick to predict that before long there won’t be any more cows in Cooper city – a lack of dairy that’s utterly scary.

“Yeah, I miss the cows,” CCHS teacher Mr. Sodergren said.

Many Cooper city residents cow-er in fear at the idea of remooving more cows from the area; soon enough, the only cows that will be around here anymore will be the mascots at Chick-fil-a. I’m done milking the situation for now, as you’ve probably herd enough of me, but my point stands – going cow-less would be a huge misteak.
