The girls varsity softball team faced off against Nova High School on Tuesday, May 9th. The Lady Cowboys had to win this game in order to move onto the regional championship game. The girls gave it their all and beat the Titans with a score of 10-0.
The Lady Cowboys warmed up before the game, getting ready to play one of the most important games of the season. The energy could be seen from the sidelines as the girls practiced throwing and hitting. When the umpire announced the game was starting, the girls from each team ran into their huddle and said their traditional cheer. The Cowboys took the field and prepared to play good defense. The girls quickly got three outs and transitioned onto offense.
“I think we started off slow, but pulled it off in the end for a 10-0 win,” sophomore Jasmin Herrera said.
Senior Kara Lokeinsky pitched a perfect game, throwing eleven strikeouts. The Cowboys didn’t allow the Titans to score, and barely let them on base. Freshman Brenna Lokeinsky hit three doubles and went 3-4. Teammate Katherine Claros added to the score by hitting a double and scoring two runs for the Cowboys. She also went 3-4. The team worked together the entire game and played outstanding offense, scoring 10 runs. The Titans tried their hardest to come back, but the Cowboys were on fire and didn’t allow them to.
“We started off slow, but in the third inning we came together and put some runs on the board,” Lokeinsky said.
The Lady Cowboys won the regional semi-finals, pushing them into regional finals. The previous year the Cowboys lost in the finals, making them determined to win it this year. They will be playing the St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the best teams in the state. The girls put in hard work all season and will give it their all to be regional champions.
Final Score: Cooper City 10, Nova 0
