On Monday, October 29th, the Cooper City Cowboys varsity football team took on the McArthur Mustangs.
At the start of the game, the Mustangs offense came out strong. Three minutes into the quarter the Mustangs snuck past the Cowboys to score a five-yard touchdown. After the first Mustang touchdown, the Cowboy defense tightened up, refusing to allow the Mustangs to score anymore for the remainder of the quarter.
Beginning the second quarter, senior Lemond Johnson ran for a touchdown. Senior Jeremy Moss followed the touchdown with a field goal. Just as things were beginning to look bright for the Cowboys, the Mustangs retaliated. On a Cowboy third down, the Mustangs caught an interception in the end zone. Following the interception, the Mustangs blocked a Cowboy punt and earned a two-point conversion as well. A Mustang penalty came in a clutch moment for the Cowboys, enabling them to make a field goal. Going into half time, the score was 25-10, Mustangs in the lead.
The third quarter was the game changer for the Cowboys. Near the end of the quarter, Johnson connected with junior Jarrett Morgan for a touchdown. With one minute left in the quarter Morgan ran in another touchdown. Following the two touchdowns, junior Mikey White scored on a two-point conversion. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the game was tied 25-25.
In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys broke the tie. Once again, Morgan ran in a five-yard touchdown. With just a few seconds remaining, the Mustang offense scored a touchdown. When attempting to make the extra point field goal, the Mustangs were unsuccessful: luck was on the Cowboys side. The final score of the game was 32-31, Cowboys taking the win.
On Friday, November 2nd, the Cowboys will take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders in a home game at 7 P.M.
