In a time filled with remakes, reboots and cinematic universes, a new franchise is now trying to join the fold, “Crocodile Dundee.” Often referred to as the Indiana Jones of the land down under, “Crocodile Dundee” was a phenomenon that swept the world during the 1980s. There were novelty lunch boxes, action figures and even coloring activity books. It was a depressing sight for many when the the third film in the original Crocodile Dundee trilogy, “Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles,” was released in 2001, marking the end of an era. However, Dundee fans need not fret as 20th Century Fox has just announced plans for a new trilogy, in the hopes of bringing this experience to a new generation of moviegoers.

“I remember watching this when I was a kid,” fan Freddy Niels said. “I used to watch the movies all the time, my favorite was two. I’m just glad that my daughter can go through the same thing that I went through when I was her age.”

The first movie in this new trilogy has been titled “Dundee: Son of a Legend Returns Home.” Those close to the project, which is being kept under wraps by 20th Century Fox, have leaked to The Quiver that the movie will surround Dundee’s long lost son Brian Dundee returning to his roots and find his missing father. None other than Danny McBride is set to play the son of the original explorer, with Chris Hemsworth playing alongside McBride as Brian Dundee’s sidekick Wally Jr.

“It’s just nice to see an alternative to all the superheroes movies,” casual moviegoer Sammy McBear said. “There just aren’t that many good movies out there nowadays but from what I’ve heard about this new Dundee movie, we could have the next big hit.”

Some have predicted that this new trilogy of films will give the Dundee franchise a much more realistic and grittier tone, a major u-turn from the usually joyful and sometimes even playfully campy originals.

“Although necessary in order to compete in such a competitive and saturated market, the Dundee films could potentially suffer from this ‘realism’ that the studio is seeking for,” Crocodile Dundee historian Bassey Charlton said.

Due to the surrounding hype, 20th Century Fox were forced to reveal a 30 second clip from the movie in order to calm down the rioting fans, a link to which will be provided below. Whatever happens with this film, the Quiver promises to keep fans informed about this new trilogy from the land down under. “Dundee: Son of a Legend Returns” is set to be released summer of 2018.
