From November 6th to 15th, car companies flocked to South Florida to showcase their top cars in the Miami International Auto Show.
An auto show is a place where people congregate to see new cars from numerous manufacturers for the upcoming year. The 45th annual Auto Show returned to the Miami Convention Center. With over 40 car manufactures, the show featured a multitude of exhibits, shows, walk in’s, and elaborate displays. With manufactures ranging from Kia to Porsche there was something for everyone. The show also featured four different attractions including: Havana Classics, Million dollar lane, Camp Jeep and “Cars meet art”.
“I think the Miami International Auto show is a lot different than many other shows I’ve been to, they have so many cars from all the manufacturers not to mention that the exhibits are so cool, I think they really set this show apart from others that I’ve been to,” said Western High School Senior Frankie DelCampo.
The Miami Auto Show was founded in 1971 and has been located in the same venue throughout its existence. The show has changed and grown with the times. Cars have become smarter, safer and more economic. As the years go by, an apparent difference can be seen in the cars that are shown. Currently, it is common to see cars with standard safety features like backup cameras and sleek modern designs.
“In the last 44 years, many changes have impacted the auto industry,” said President of the association, Rick Baker “Reliability is up. Cars are safter, handle better, and get better milage, look good longer and offer many creature comforts inside…”
Throughout the years, the auto show has been known to be extravagant in its entirety. The car manufacturers typically surpass expectations every year, in 2015 some crowd favorites included Lexus, BMW and Range Rover. Lexus included a massive display with their brand new F sport models. BMW, a constant performer, held a display with cars from their entire lineup, ranging from $20,000 to well over $80,000. Finally, Range Rover displayed their newest car, known as the “Evoque” which comes in a Diesel Hybrid option.
“I definitely enjoyed Lexus’s presentation and how they enjoyed their cars,” Cooper City High School Sophomore Liam Fellows said. “Lexus organized their layout wisely, and they even had a souped up {a car with expensive modifications} versions of their sedan. It was different, and their employees are always informative and operate with professionalism”
The show also offered a variety of attractions along with the new line up of cars. For instance, Million Dollar Alley is an exhibit where visitors can see stunning, one of a kind cars with seven digit price tags. Another show was Camp Jeep, located outside the venue, gave visitors an opportunity to ride in a brand new 2016 Jeep and go through a course similar to what one would encounter when in the mountains. One of the newest exhibits was Havana Classics, a room which transports visitors to the 1950s; this was a prime time for Cuban cars.
