Songs of Summer 2015
1. See You Again by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa
This song was probably the biggest hit of the summer. Its instrumental opening catches many listeners’ attention, and Puth’s voice is so charming it captures the hearts of many teenage girls. However, Wiz Khalifa’s rap portion completely ruins the song. Even though everything about Khalifa’s rap is detrimental to the tune, this song reached number 1 on the charts.
2. Cheerleader by OMI
I personally despise this song. OMI’s voice makes me want to puke; it is so electronic even a chipmunk sounds more natural. This song should have never made it to the top ten. Not only is OMI’s voice disgraceful, but the lyrics to the song are not even rememerable. Don’t waste your time listening to this.
3. Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon
I think that this song is extremely catchy. The tune, lyrics. and meaning behind the lyrics are catchy and fun. The singer explains how “this girl is [his] destiny” and she says to him “shut up and dance with me.” I think that those lyrics alone would make any girl smile. I recommend giving this song a listen.
4. Photograph by Ed Sheeran
This song brings tears to my eyes almost every time I listen to it. The meaning behind the song that every photograph has a meaning/story is powerful. It sounds like Sheeran had a love from his past, and he wanted her to “keep [him] inside the pocket of [her] ripped jeans” and to hold him close. Anyone who has loved someone or currently loves someone can feel something while listening to this song. That is what music is all about: finding meaning and connection to the music.
5. Watch Me! by Silento
The whip has become a world renowned dance. Older popular dances included the Soulja Boy, the wop, and the wobble, but now the whip receives the most buzz. It is a pretty stupid dance that has no choreographic significance, but everyone still seems to love it. No wonder why it’s such a hit, considering that almost every high schooler used to be obsessed with the song, “Selfie.”
6. Can’t Feel My Face by the Weeknd
So nobody really knew who the Weeknd was until this summer when he came out with his hit song, “Can’t Feel My Face”. Okay, yeah it’s a great song, but what does the phrase “can’t feel my face” even me? How can you not feel your face while with someone. I am pretty sure when i’m accompanied by people I can touch my eyes, ears, mouth, and nose and feel them just fine. Don’t get me wrong- this is an awesome song to get up and dance to, and it’s also a great song to listen to with your headphones in doing homework. Even though the lyrics don’t make sense to me, I still enjoy listening to “Can’t Feel My Face”!
7. Good for You by Selena Gomez ft. A$AP Rocky
This song, by the one and only Selena Gomez, ft. A$AP Rocky, was definitely a summer hit! I personally think the lyrics Selena sings are so relatable, and this is one of the only songs I have heard in awhile without lyrics that have absolutely no meaning whatsoever. I believe so many girls of all ages can relate to this song in many ways. The beat is not my favorite, and A$AP Rocky’s part is awful in my personal opinion. I really only like the lyrics, not the whole song itself. Not one of my favorites by Selena, however, it isn’t terrible.
8. Cool for the Summer by Demi Lovato
“Cool for the Summer”, by the stunning Demi Lovato, has got to be the most impressive song of summer 2015! The beat blows my mind; it makes me want to drop everything and just dance like nobody’s watching. The lyrics don’t really make much sense to me, but the beat and background music definitely makes up for it. It is so different and unlike any of Demi’s others songs, and I am a huge fan of Demi’s new music. Demi never fails to come out with a sensational hit.
9. Worth It by Fifth Harmony ft. Kid Ink
Fifth Harmony!!!! I love those five gorgeous girls so much!! Fifth Harmony is on their way to major fame. Their song, “Worth It”, was one of the most played songs this past summer. Every radio station would play this song at least ten times a day, if not more. Just like “Good For You”, I think every girl could relate tremendously to this empowering song. I am all for girl power, and this song is all about how girls are sensational and so powerful! I do have to admit, I am so tired of this song by now! I mean c’mon, how could I not be? Towards the end of this summer, the song was just extremely overplayed and grew to be very irritating.
10. She’s Kinda Hot by 5 Seconds of Summer
5 Seconds of Summer’s new song “She’s Kinda Hot” is one for the books! I am a huge fan of upbeat songs, and “She’s Kinda Hot” is by far one of the most energetic and exhilarating songs that have recently come out. The song is actually quite humorous to me, this boy is complaining about his girlfriend, but calling her hot at the same time? He is basically contradicting himself, but if that “floats his boat” then so be it. I could listen to this song for hours and never get tired of it because It’s so catchy and cute. Definitely one of my favorite songs of the summer.
