That Awkward Moment follows three friends that make a pact to not get into serious relationships. True to its title, the film centers on awkward moments, better defined as moments that either take a relationship to the next level or terminate it. All in all, the film provides its audience an opportunity to look back on their own lives as well as laugh at the  “male struggles” and the “inconveniences” that accompany dating.

The film stars Zac Effron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, who all play a key role in capturing and maintaining the audience’s attention. The three actors manage to combine their familiar characters with an affability that proves irresistible to viewers. At times the predictability within the narrative poses problems. The movie does exactly what you expect it to and eventually, the audiences attention span fizzles out. Always managing to pick up the pace, however, is Teller’s character, Daniel, the guy who never fails to generate laughs.

Director Tom Gormican embraced the title of his film by allowing for continuous “Oh that’s awkward” moments throughout the entirety of the movie. With dialogue that moves at a rapid pace, Gormican infused the film with an unapologetically sitcom-like feel. Overall, That Awkward Moment is simply easy to like and there’s just something electric about the film’s smutty humor.

Reminding audiences that it is a rom-com, the film’s grand romantic gesture in the film’s closing minutes solidifies the notion that love triumphs all. To audiences who may enjoy the dark humor and raunchy scenes, That Awkward Moment will have you laughing, possibly covering your eyes and ears, but it will entertain you nonetheless.
