If you haven’t heard of Lorde, get ready because she is the next big thing in music. The sixteen year old New Zealand native topped charts with her song “Royals” and has just released her album Pure Heroine. Her take on music is fresh and irresistibly rich. Not only does she have a talent for singing but Lorde also writes her own lyrics. Seamlessly balancing the image of being a regular teen with fame, Pure Heroine displays talent and maturity well beyond the young singer’s years.

Pure Heroine starts off with “Tennis Court” a previously released hit that might initially seem repetitive but is still fun and catchy. However, Lorde makes up for this in her hit single “Royals” a song that is both addictive and beautiful. With lyrics like “Let me be your ruler you could call me queen bee… let me live that fantasy”, “Royals” is the perfect anthem for hopeful teens wishing they could make it. Lorde continues these relatable tunes with “Ribs”, a song that shows how crazy and scary it is to grow up. In the opening lyrics Lorde states “The drink you spilt all over me, lovers been left on repeat, my mom and dad let me stay home it drives you crazy getting old” showcase the feeling perfectly.

“Team” is a fluid song that is slightly repetitive but definitely has a cool vibe it allows you to truly experience Lorde’s vocal range. “Still sane” showcases Lorde’s determination to make it big with the lyrics “All work and no play never made me lose it. All business all day keeps me up a level.” The album closes with “A World Alone”, a ballad where the singer’s voice mellows down and sinks into the lyrics. When she states “All my fake friends and all of their noise, complain about work, they’re studying business I study the floor.” she captures her listeners with ease.

Overall the Pure Heroine is an excellent example of sophisticated pop music. Despite her age, her music will continue to climb to the top.
