If you were to go on vacation to Florence, Italy, and walk along the Arno River, you would find yourself questioning why there is a massive number of padlocks attached to virtually every nearby surface. The legend of the Ponte Vecchio padlocks explains this peculiar happening. According to the legend, if you and your significant other attach a padlock to any surface of the famous bridge that stretches over the Arno river, and then throw away the key into the water below, your love will last forever. Millions of couples venture to the Ponte Vecchio for just this reason, leaving thousands of locks along the river.
