In the week of December 19th through the 23rd students at CCHS will be taking their midterm exams for the first semester of the 2016/2017 school year.
Testing week will begin on Monday, December 19th which will be a normal A day and testing will start on Tuesday the 20th and end on the 23rd. There will be two exams a day, with the first exam from 7:30-9:20 and second from 9:40-11:30.
“With exams being before break I like the fact that I won’t have any pressure to study over the break, but I feel that since our quarter is so short it puts us at a big disadvantage,” Senior Star Fassler said.
Students should expect to receive their exemption forms from their 5th period teachers on Monday, December 12th and they are due on the 19th. Students may not sign off their own grades, it must be done by the teacher. Late forms will not be accepted.
“Because of the courses I’ve chosen, I can’t exempt many classes,” Junior Bailey Kraus said. “I do wish that the district could look into the possibility of opening up exemption policies to AP classes.”
Exams are created on a teacher by teacher and subject by subject basis. Rules for exemption depend on if the class has an EOC or an AP exam along with the overall average for the semester. Classes that have end of course exam include: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, US History, Biology 1, in which case, exemption is not an option and the exam must be taken. Another criteria that must be met for exemption is at least a B average for the semester, which takes into account both quarter grades. A student must obtain at least a B in both quarters to qualify, a student does not qualify for exemption if they obtained a C or lower in either of the quarters.
