As the holiday season approaches, Student Government Association (SGA) is working on introducing Cooper City High’s first annual winter spirit week. It is planned to start the week of December 10, 2018.

“After homecoming week, the rest of the year goes back to a normal type of situation where there’s not really a lot of silly and enjoyable moments, so we decided to do a winter-themed spirit week,” Flaten said. “You know, we just wanted to have something entertaining before going into midterms and final exams.”

“This year we are so excited to be able to have a spirit week that showcases all the holiday essence in a variety of different themes each day of the week,” SGA member sophomore Drew Okun said. “Each day of the week has a different concept which are all filled with the holiday atmosphere.”

Monday is “Merry Morning Monday,” where students and staff can wear their favorite pajamas. Tuesday holds the title of “Blizzard Beach Tuesday,” encouraging students to wear tropical and Hawaiian apparel. The next day is “Sweater Weather Wednesday,” during which participants are able to wear an ugly holiday sweater. “Holiday Headwear Thursday” is all about the elf ears, Santa hats, reindeer ears and other festive headwear. Finally, the last day is “Fuzzy Sock/Flannel Friday,” which promotes comfort and coziness. Students can wear cute, fluffy socks as well as their favorite flannels.

Senior Abigail Tucker is the member in charge of making this spirit week happen, with the help of SGA adviser Natalie Flaten.

“After homecoming week, the rest of the year goes back to a normal type of situation where there’s not really a lot of silly and enjoyable moments, so we decided to do a winter-themed spirit week,” Flaten said. “You know, we just wanted to have something entertaining before going into midterms and final exams.”

“I hope everyone dresses up because it’s really easy and simple [to do].”

Like homecoming week, SGA has heavily promoted this year’s winter spirit week. Large banners and posters explaining what to wear for each respective day have recently been hung up in the school cafeteria.

Not only has SGA been promoting the winter spirit week on campus, but outside of school as well. SGA members have been posting the information on multiple social media platforms.

“We all wanted to have another spirit week and, since winter is right around the corner, we thought it would be a great idea to incorporate the idea of wearing an ugly sweater to school and wearing fuzzy socks– which most people like even when it’s hot outside,” Tucker said. “We’ve been starting to hang banners in the cafeteria and posting on social media all the themes for each day. I hope everyone dresses up because it’s really easy and simple [to do].”

Hoping to secure another week of the year promoting school spirit, SGA wants to kick off its first winter spirit week as a complete success. With this ‘winterful’ week coming soon, students have the opportunity to participate in the seasonal fun and celebrate the approaching holidays on campus with their fellow Cowboys.
