Each game consistently starts off with the same seven minute warm up.
It consists of hitting lines with some serve receive, and ends with everyone serving. Each player and position warms up at the same time together as a team, like they do before every game. After that, they shake hands with the other team and wish them luck. That is followed by the same cheer that the varsity team does before every single game. Although everything seems to be the same, each player comes to the game with a different mood, each team is a different skill level than the one before and each game has a different referee that makes different calls. There are so many factors that go into how the team ends up performing in the game, and the game against Everglades didn’t seem to come out in favor of the Cowboys.
On Tuesday, October 3, the Cooper City lady Cowboys volleyball team faced off against Everglades at Everglades High School. The game went into 4 sets and ended in favor of Everglades. The Lady Cowboys picked it up and won the second set but could ultimately not keep up and fell apart in the end.
The first set was won by Everglades with a score of 25-14. The Cowboys started off strong but couldn’t keep up once Everglades distanced the gap. Although they lost the set, Lauren Rock had 15 digs and Sam Mcvay had 18 assists. They fought hard but made a lot of vital mistakes.
The Cowboys came back strong in the second set and forced Everglades to make errors causing them to come out with the win. Megan Hernandez had 7 kills and Saige Montiero had 6 kills and 2 blocks. The game was 25-24 and forced the Cowboys to push one more point; they did and were able to end the set 26-24, making it 1-1.
“I just felt like as a team we could have done so much better,” senior Megan Hernandez said. “We just made too many mistakes and Everglades was able to capitalize on them.”
The Cowboys could not keep the momentum going and lost the last 2 sets both with a score of 25-14. Although the game did not go in their favor, it was not a district game and will not count against them as they go further in their season.
Final score: Cooper City 1, Everglades 3
