CCHS will host the first annual John McCall Memorial Golf Scramble on November 10th at the Hollywood Beach Country Club on Johnson Street to honor the memory of former Cooper City High School teacher John McCall, and raise college funds for his daughter Amanda.

John McCall

McCall, a government teacher at CCHS, passed away last February after a year-long battle with cancer. At this golf scramble, golfers will have an opportunity to compete for prizes, participate in a raffle and enjoy an assortment of other activities.

“It’s going to be a great time for all ages,” social studies teacher Charles Cardinale said. “It’s such a worthy cause too because McCall left an important mark on this school.”

Various sponsorship opportunities are also available for purchase, starting at $25. Participants are also encouraged to bring donations including products, services, and gift certificates.

“Our goal is to make this a fun, successful event with prizes and giveaways but we also need your thoughtful contributions to make this possible,” Cardinale said. “All donations are greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged at our event.”

The idea for the event came from McCall’s friends who he used to sit with at lunch. Social studies teacher Michael Manning took over most of the planning process. Other teachers including Cardinale, Darryl Schultz, Sally A. McNeal, Michelle Jetton, Warren Denise, and Marie Anne McDonald have also pitched in to make this event a success.

One hundred and forty four golfers are needed to participate in the event. Any interested golfers, high school or older, are encouraged to sign up. For further details about the tournament, contact Manning by e-mail ([email protected]) or by phone at 954-557-0138.
