When the Cooper City High School football team takes the field, they each have one thing on their mind: winning. One player, however, is focused on the game while holding the weight of the entire team on his shoulders. His name is Camden Krohn, and through his impressive work ethic and leadership, he makes sure the Cowboys put forth their best effort to leave each game victorious.
Whether it’s on offense or defense, Krohn is constantly making impact plays. With the agility of a wide receiver and the power of a fullback Krohn evades would be tacklers with ease, and if there is no lane to run through, he simply creates his own by bulldozing through the opposition.
Krohn is always trying to help his team win, even after taking huge hits on the field which would sideline almost any player, he’s back on his feet, refusing to go out of the game. Of the many qualities that Camden shows, his determination may be the most impressive.
“Nothing can keep me from getting on that field,” Krohn said.
The senior running back has played football his entire life. Starting at a young age in the Cooper City Optimist league, Krohn knew from the beginning it was more than just a hobby. He began playing high school football at Archbishop McCarthy, but transferred to CCHS before his junior year. Camden and head coach Art Taylor both made a huge impact on the team in their first year, leading them to their first ever district championship.
“Last year was incredible,” Krohn said. “Not only are we trying to win districts again, but this year we want more.”
Coach Taylor has had a huge impact on Krohn as well as the rest of the team. By teaching players how to conduct themselves on and off the field, Taylor has instilled a sense of pride in the team. He has a special relationship with all players, and has already made a lasting impact on Krohn’s life.
“Coach is not only a great leader, but a great friend,” Krohn said. “He is always there if I need to talk.”
Krohn’s relationship with coach Taylor has also affected his plans for life after high school. Coach Taylor makes sure word gets out to colleges about Camden’s play, trying to help Krohn reach one of his goals of playing college football. Currently the schools that are interested are the University of Cincinnati, the University of Central Florida, Notre Dame, and the University of Connecticut. Taylor is confident that Camden can play football at the D-1 level.
“What can you say?” Coach Taylor said. “The kid is special.”
Playing football at the collegiate and even the professional level has always been a goal for Krohn. Ever since meeting a recruiter during last years’ season, he knew it was possible. Although it is a while from now, he is already preparing for his future by trying his hardest at everything he does, keeping up with schoolwork, and not taking anything for granted. For now though, Krohn’s sights are focused on this season.
“Our goal as a team is to win districts again,” Krohn said. “It’s going to be a challenge, but I think we can do it.”
On and off the field, Krohn leads the team and other players through a hard work ethic. Fellow teammates really look up to Krohn, as he leads by example and is always willing to help others.
“Camden helps all the players,” senior Efosa Aburime said. “Just watching the way he prepares himself makes us all better.”
So far, Cowboys have made good on their vow to improve this season; although they have a significantly tougher schedule the team is currently 8-0 and are on their way to another district title.
“This team looks really good for the amount of time we’ve had to prepare.” Coach Taylor said.
With exciting runs, kick returns, and game changing defensive plays Krohn has the Cowboys on track to win their second consecutive district championship. While the road has been tough, the Cowboys are definitely being lead in the right direction. So if you ever happen to be at Cooper City High on a fall Friday night, those cheers coming from the football stands, are probably the result of a game changing play by Camden Krohn.
