On Wednesday, November 16th the boys varsity soccer team faced off against the Everglades Gators.  The boys won their first district game of the season with a score of 2-0.

The Cowboys started off strong in the first half, dominating the Gators immediately. The Cowboys kept possession for the first 40 minutes of the game, not allowing any of the opposing players past their defense. Cooper City continuously took shots on goal, but were unsuccessful. The Cowboys made combination plays that put them near the net, but made some mistakes and were unlucky.  “I look forward to winning all of our district games this year,” sophomore Greg Satinover said.  The boys ended the first half with their heads high, and were determined to bring home the win.

The second half started with a score of 0-0, and the Cowboys continued to fight. The Cowboys began to challenge the Gators, making runs up and down the sidelines. The forwards made crosses, but nobody could hit it to the back of the net.  In the 65th minute of the game, senior Lucas Cusnir dribbled the ball down the sideline and crossed it to junior Mateo Upegui. “I felt great knowing that I put my team on the scoreboard,” Upegui said. “At the end of the day, giving us a great district win for the boys.” He tapped the ball and it rolled right into the goal, putting the Cowboys up 1-0.  The boys on the bench went crazy along with the crowd.  Shortly after, junior Tomas Upegui juked out two of the opposing players and shot a bullet to the bottom right corner, putting the score at 2-0 with a few more minutes to go.  The Cowboys continued to the challenge the Gators until the very last whistle of the game.

The Cowboys ran off the field smiling from ear to ear, knowing that they had just won a very important game.  “We’ve improved so much more, the team knows how everyone is as an individual and are able to determine one’s abilities,” Cusnir said. “We learned how to communicate better with one another and not play as an individual’s.  The Cowboys look forward to the rest of the season, hoping for big accomplishments.

Final Score: Cowboys 2, Everglades 0
