On Tuesday December 12, the CCHS boys varsity basketball team faced off against the Nova Titans for their first game of the week. It was an important district game, the Cowboys pulling through with a win of 70-49. This now puts their record at 5-0.
The game started out in the Titan’s favor, giving them the lead. The Cowboys missed multiple opportunities to rebound the ball, giving possession to Nova as a result. Tensions were building, creating frustration among the Cowboys. The Cowboys had a lead of three points going into halftime, making the game extremely close.
Cooper City came out strong right away, making the players work together offensively and defensively. The Cowboy’s defense stopped the Titan offense from tying up the game. The players worked up and down the court, boxing out the Nova Titans on each end of the court. The Cowboys began to make not only two pointers, but three pointers too. They also began to finish their rebound shots, which gave them some extra points. This hard work led them to a victory of 70-49, 21 points ahead of the Titans. Senior Dylan Graziani had the most three pointers of the game for the Cowboys.
“We had a good win,” junior Bryce Weinsier said. “Instead of coming out slow to start, we could improve by coming out hot, right away in the first quarter and gain[ing] a big lead early on.”
The Cowboys still have more district games they will need to win this season and this week alone. They have shown a strong consistency, and have yet to be stopped. The players have a lot going on this week, with multiple games and exams coming up; however, they have maintained a separate focus for their game and continue to practice hard.
Final score: Cooper City 70, Nova 49
