December is here, and that means students at Cooper City High School who celebrate Christmas will be hurriedly decorating their Christmas trees and hanging up ornaments in preparation for the holidays. To anyone without a tree or ornaments this Christmas however, CCHS’ Sound of Pride band is stepping in. As a fundraiser for the band program as a whole, the band will be selling Christmas trees and their accessories. Smaller accessories and wreaths, handcrafted by band students and parents, will be sold alongside them.
“I think the tree stand is a great fundraiser for the program and our community, even people outside of Cooper City come to buy our trees,” Band member Megan Staszkiewicz said. “It’s a lot of fun to help out because you’re with friends and helping everyone in a positive way, and we get to have fun while doing it.”
The trees and their accessories are being sold right now on Cooper City High School’s campus, at a stand next to the senior parking lot. To purchase any of their stock, simply arrive at school at anytime between 5pm and 9pm after school, or if that’s too inconvenient they are also open from 9am to 9pm on the weekends. The sale extends from now until December 21st, or two days before the start of winter break, and Cooper City High School students are advised to purchase their tree early so they have ample time to set it up for Christmas. The prices of the trees can range from either $60 to $110, depending on their size.
“It is something that has now become an iconic fundraiser in the community,” Band Director John Wilkerson said. “Everybody knows to come support the school and the fundraising that we have.”
