On Thursday, February 2 the hallways of Cooper City High School were flooded by a whole slew of brand new innocent faces. This time, it wasn’t the incoming freshmen on the annual eighth grade walkover, but the faces of teachers children who came to experience a day in the life at CCHS.

“Why did the banana go to the doctor… he wasn’t peeling well,” Zachary Patterson chuckled.

From grading papers to teaching lessons and telling the occasional joke the children surely were entertained for the entire day. Among the bunch was Elle Lawrence, Zachary Patterson, Kailey Lipton, Joshua Perez and Gabriel Dixon.

The kids were obviously astonished about the apparent differences between their quaint elementary schools and Cooper City.

“School here is filled with the older kids and there’s a third floor which is like wow because my school only has two floors,” Patterson said.  “Yea, it’s a pretty big deal.”

Although the day was an overall success for the children, having to wake up in the early hours of the morning to make it in time before the 7:30 bell seemed to be a challenge.

“Yea, I could say that it was hard getting up in the morning. I’m usually used to waking up at 8 not 5,” seventh grader Gabriel Dixon said.

In between their important duties as designated teacher assistants, the children found some time for socializing.

“My favorite color is pink and I’m friends with some of the big kids now,” Kailey said, “One of my friends now is Julia and she really likes pink too.”

Being amongst students years older than them, Cooper had the youngsters pondering about what they want to do in the future. Instead of thinking about himself, Joshua Perez is thinking years above his age and hopes to better his community.

“I want to be a firefighter. I want to save lives,” Joshua Perez said.

All in all, coming to Cooper was great for the kids to see what their parents do every day and have some fun along with it.

“It’s very exciting coming to Cooper City because like its like you don’t get to go here every single day,” Lawrence said. “And I think it’s a super fun place to come to because the teachers are so nice.”
