Flag Football: Team Remains Undefeated After Playing Coral Springs

For the first time in years, the Cooper City Cowboys varsity flag football team has gone undefeated 10–0. The team has progressed immensely and has high hopes for the rest of the season. On Wednesday, April 19, the Cowboys faced off against Coral Springs High School. It was one of the best games the Lady Cowboys had played, winning 53–0, beating the other team.

To start the game the Cowboys came out strong and scored right away, gaining an early lead which they maintained throughout the game. Senior quarterback Caitlin Dunn even got the extra point, which filled the team with happiness knowing how badly she had been wanting to make that play.     

Since the beginning of the season the coaches have always told the girls, “In order to win you have to pull flags and catch the ball,” and the Cowboys did exactly that. Throughout the entire game, passes were complete and the defense was on fire pulling flags. The defense caused many incomplete passes made by Coral Springs. There was no stopping these girls, as they were on a roll. Finally, they were peeking not as individuals, but as a whole team. Everyone played an important role in this game, making it easy because the Cowboys knew what they needed to do in order to get the job done right. This game was not only exciting because of the Cowboys victory, but also because everyone had a chance to play.

It was no surprise to the crowd that one player stood out. One of the star freshman, Kimberly Slinkosky, had three touchdowns and gained yardage on almost every play she had received the ball. She managed to cut, spin, and split players with her skills and speed.

With all of this success, the Cowboys must stay humble in order to really receive the respect they deserve after these last two seasons. The past is the past, and this is not the same team of  athletes from years passed.
