On Monday February 27th, the CCHS Cowboys, girls and boys water polo team’s held their very own miniature tournament against Coral Glades High School and Barbara Goleman High School. Each team had two full games in one night, putting their strengths to the test.
The girls faced off against Coral Gables first, managing to gain an early lead of 10-1. This is just what the team needed to boost confidence levels and really give everyone a chance to play and prove themselves. This allowed for what some say the “second string” players to get involved and score their first goals of the season. Coral Gables did not give up, putting away two more goals against Cooper. The lady Cowboys then proceeded to score 7 more, finalizing the game with a 17-3 win for the girls. Although exhausted from their first game, the girls went in strong for their second game against Barbara Goleman, relying on a strong defense an aggressive offense. Goleman brought more of a challenge to the table, but this did not stop the Cowboys from pursuing an early lead then obtaining it. Finishing off the game at 25-6.
The Boys also proved themselves racking up the score early on and allowing everyone to get a chance to play. The boys had played Coral Gables first where more players who usually do not get a chance to score, got to feel the glory while also winning the game with a score of 13-4. The Cowboys luckily still had refreshed starters who were able to jump in against Barbara Goleman. They also managed to win, but cut it close all the way down to the last few minutes. The final score was 15-13.
Both teams brought different elements to the pool, creating new opportunities for the Cowboys and see what they are really all about. Both girls and boys won all of their games, showing off their talents and hard work.
