Boys Varsity Lacrosse: CCHS Obtains Their First Win of the Season Against West Broward

RECAP BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE VS WEST BROWARD

As the fans filled the bleachers, the Cowboys were getting in their pre-game mindset. Their concentration could be seen from the sideline, the determination to win was extreme. The referees blew their whistles, and the boys took their positions on the fields, ready to give it their all.

The boys started off strong, winning the faceoff instantly. Freshman Kadin Schillo moved the ball down to the attack, and took a strong shot at the goal. It went out of bounds and the Cowboys regained possession. Schillo had another opportunity on goal, and took it, scoring the first goal of the game. The Cowboys kept up the insane intensity, and forced the ball down the field. They were able to move the ball around the defense and open up pockets for attackers. Senior Craig Barr made his way through the open space and placed the ball right over the goalies head, making the score 2-0. The Cowboys were dominating, and continued to score more goals. Barr gained possession of the ball again and took a shot at the side net, making the score 3-0. “I think we will make it all the way to districts this season,” Barr said. The Bobcats started to put pressure on the Cowboys and scored two goals in the first quarter. The Cowboys didn’t give up then, quickly moving the ball around the defense. Schillo took a risk and shot it from a very far distance, but placed it in the upper right corner of the net. The Cowboy defense was able to strip the ball away from the West Broward attackers and return it to the Cooper City midfielders. Senior Luke O’malley was able to find a hole in the West Broward defense, and scored his first goal. The Cowboys were instantly dominating the whole game, taking away every opportunity West Broward had. The Cowboys were able to score another goal and were winning at the end of the first half. “We started out really strong and really shocked our opponent,” sophomore Griffin Hemingway said. “The six goals we put up in the first quarter gave us momentum.”

The determination to win was very strong, and the Cowboys showed that. They won almost every face off and kept the ball near the goal. A West Broward player received the ball and took a shot from almost 13 yards out, scoring the third goal. The Cowboys denied every other shot the Bobcats had. Barr was able to score two more goals for the Cowboys, complimented by two assists. There was no doubt that the Cowboys were going to win, and they proved that. O’Malley received a pass from one of the midfielders and took another shot on the goal, scoring his second goal of the night. “I think we played well together, we kept the ball moving and were able to find open shots to take,” O’Malley said. “The defense played aggressive and stopped the ball most of the time.

As the end of the game came close, the Bobcats were able to put one more in the back of the net. Meanwhile, Barr was able to score two more goals for the Cowboys. Not only did Barr score goals, but O’malley scored his final goal for the Cowboys as well. They kept up the intensity until the very end of the game. Senior Justin Croye, a player new to the game, used a roll-dodge on one of the defenders and scored his first goal of the season. The Cowboys gave everything they had, and won the game with a score of 13-4.
