There are few things throughout the year that have become such milestones of the Cooper City school experience, that life without them seems impossible. One of such traditions, the annual Girl Scout cookies fundraiser starts around the beginning of the new year, offering a multitude of flavors and types that have become favorites among the students of Cooper City High School.
“I love Girl Scout cookies, I always look forward to it when the that time of the year comes,” Senior Sergio Owens said. “My favorite type of cookie is the Samoa cookies because I just love the taste of the coconut and chocolate together.”
Starting in the beginning of January, Girl Scouts will be selling cookies into mid-February and people can buy them per box for $4, although specialty cookies will be sold for $5, which includes the new Girl Scout S’mores.
“It’s really important that people participate and buy these cookies,” Girl Scout and Junior Megan Luque said. “It really helps out your local girl scout troops for trips and other activities later in the year.”
The cookies being sold this year will include classic like the incredibly popular Thin Mints, as well as Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-Dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Dulce de Leche, Thank you Berry Much, and the new Girl Scout S’mores. People can buy the treats from students across the school who will have most of the flavors on them to sell to any participating students.
This fundraiser is particularly special this time around as it marks 100 years of the Girl Scouts starting their biggest fundraiser of the year, which started in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where Girl Scouts began selling their cookies in the local high school. In the same vein, many hope that they can continue the tradition and make this year as successful as possible in order to celebrate the huge milestone of their long and proud history.
“They taste great and there is a variety of flavors so everyone can choose anything that they want and be happy,” Senior Michael Wei said. “My favorite type of cookie has to be the Thin Mints, especially when they’re frozen, they’re pretty good.”
With the fundraiser just starting, anyone who wants a box of cookies better hurry before they’re all gone.
