While underclassmen spent their Professional Study Day hitting the books, the Class of 2017 seniors celebrated their first senior breakfast at Cooper City High School, featuring bagels, a DJ booth, senior superlatives, and the classic panoramic class photo.
“It really represents the accomplishment we’ve had, making it four years and coming together for one last hurrah,” Dawson Worley said.
“The senior breakfast has been a Cooper tradition for decades,” class sponsor David Osborne, who overlooked the breakfast, said.
The senior class officers put together the breakfast beforehand and focused their efforts on preparing for one of the first all-senior events of the year, but took a step back the morning of to enjoy the breakfast. Junior class officers served the food in the morning.

“Everyone was tasked to get food from a different vendor,” class Vice President Danielle Kurtz said. “We contacted countless vendors to get discounts so we could provide as much as possible.”
Senior superlatives were announced at the breakfast after months of social media campaigning and cutthroat competition. Among the winners were The Lariat’s editor-in-chief Charlie Blodnieks and Ben Goldstein for most Likely to Succeed, Nikki Tjin a Djie and Max Mickenberg for Future POTUS, and Carolina Chiari and Dawson Worley for Most School Spirit.
“I was excited when I won Forever Young because I felt like it fit me perfectly,” Krystianna Clouse said.
The breakfast lasted from fifth to sixth period, with seniors heading to the gym for the class panorama directly after. Collective groans from the seniors ensued when Principal Ms. Wendy Doll suggested mannequin challenge photos, baffling an amused administration. Ultimately, a handful of shots from a professional photographer hanging from a ladder were taken.
Each year, groups of seniors decorate their own class shirts for the breakfast. Among them were “What We Learned in Boating School,” a reference to a SpongeBob Squarepants episode in which SpongeBob finally passes boating school thanks to extra credit; “Open the Gates,” a commentary on graduating school with

underlying meaning about skipping school; “2017% Done,” “There Goes the 90s!” and “Kings and Queens of 2017.”
With senior year coming to a close, the Class of 2017 has made an effort to end with a muffin in hand.
