On Wednesday, November 30th, the Cooper City Cowboys boys soccer beat the Flanagan Falcons 4-1.
The Falcons came out significantly stronger than the Cowboys, gaining an early lead of 1-0, with a long shot placing the ball in the top corner. Finally, right before the half, the Cowboys came back when Tomas Upegui assisted and played the ball to Mateo Upegui who scored.
“The biggest play of the game had to be when we equalized, that sparked the team’s motivation and boosted us up morally,” Jacob Martin said.
Coming back strong in the second half, the Cowboys captain Alonso Mendoza scored a vital penalty kick, giving them the lead of 2-1. Then progressing into the the half, Tomas Upegui crossed the ball in and freshman Jacob Martin headed the ball and scored his first goal of his high school career, making the score 3-1. With just 15 minutes left in the game, center back Ethan Muncan scored off a corner kick, finalizing the score of 4-1.
“We came out soft but once we got our momentum going they couldn’t stop us.” Junior Andrew Hausdorf said.
This win was important for the Cowboys, as they have now have won both of their district games.
Final score: Cowboys 4, Falcons 1.
