The road to graduation is underfoot, and CCHS is guidance is paving the way. In tandem to projects such as the door decorating contest, guidance is facilitating a monthly raffle open to seniors.
“So what we’ve done is taken fun and unique gift baskets and used them as incentives to help seniors complete graduation requirements,” senior counselor Clara Neeks said. “We love celebrating seniors and all their hard work.”
Each month, Mrs. Neeks prepares a special gift basket that can be won via raffle. To put a name in the raffle box, a student must have completed a special monthly task relating to graduation.
To be eligible to enter in the month of November, FAFSA and Bright Future applications must have been turned in. To place your name in the box, a visit to Mrs. Neeks is necessary.
At the end of November, Neeks will pick a name, and one lucky senior will receive a $50 gift card to a mystery store. The raffle is free and open to all seniors, so there is nothing to lose.
“I’m excited for this month’s drawing, I was going to fill out the FAFSA and Bright Future application anyways,” Debate President Gaby Sanchez said. “It would be nice to get a gift card out of it. Little things like these help keep me motivated.”
Gifts were curated by Mrs. Neeks, the student success coach, Mrs. Siweck, and other guidance counselors before the start of the school year. The biggest raffle prize is for April and consists of two free prom tickets. To be eligible, a senior must not have missed more than 4 days of school, excused or otherwise.
“Last year attendance was a huge problem, so naturally the juiciest prize this year tries to combat that,” says attendance coordinator Mindy Kusher. “I am happy to say it is working, and the list I keep of seniors who have missed excessive amounts of days is shorter than any previous year.”
December’s prize will be a coffee themed basket and will be based on passing the Algebra 1 EOC and Reading FSA. For more information, please contact Mrs. Neeks in guidance.
