On Tuesday November 1st, the Cooper City Cowboys girls varsity soccer team faced off against the Hollywood Hills Spartans. The lady Cowboys ran the score all the way up to 8-0, winning their first game of the season.

The Lady Cowboys started off strong in the first quarter, scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game.  Shortly after, senior Jemma Miller scored the second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore Dominique Perron.  Five minutes after that, sophomore Olivia Lewis scored the third goal for the Lady Cowboys. The Lady Cowboys kept going hard, as sophomore Jasmine O’hara dribbled through the Spartans to score the 4th goal of the game.  The Spartan defense tried to restrain the Lady Cowboys, but were unsuccessful, allowing Lewis to score another goal for the Cowboys.  A water break was called and the score was left at 5-0.

Cooper City didn’t come out as strong as they did the first half, but still did exceedingly well.  The Spartans were able to hold off the Cowboys for a long period of time, keeping the score at 5-0.  The half was coming close to an end when senior Saige Griffin scored a goal from just inside the 18-yard box.

“I think the best part was not about the game in particular, but how people actually came and watched our game,” said Griffin.

The Cowboys attempted to score more goals in the first half, but were unable to. The score of the first half was left at 6-0.

Coming out of the half, the lady Cowboys were eager to score. Two more goals and they game would be considered a “mercy rule”. During the third quarter, the ball remained on the Spartans half. Shot after shot, Cooper City’s midfielder, Jenny Burleton, was able to put one more in the net. Ending the third quarter with a score of 7-0.

Finally, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, after taking 3 other shots, Sarah Molina scored the 8th goal for the Cowboys. Allowing the girls to mercy rule Hollywood hills, and end 20 minutes earlier than expected. The Lady Cowboys finished the game with a score of 8-0.
