Cooper City High School Spanish teacher Gloria Perez is taking trips with students to allow them to experience the different cultures and opportunities the world has to offer. This year, she is planning to travel to Italy and Greece. Any student or family member is welcome to join.
Mrs. Perez can relate to high school students with a bad case of wanderlust. Her love for traveling intensified when she was in high school herself.
“In high school, I became very aware of other places,” Mrs. Perez said. “I wanted to visit those places.”
To escape to cities such as Venice and Barcelona, Mrs. Perez would delve into literature and study French. She was not in the financial position to travel across the globe at the time but promised herself that she would someday.
Mrs. Perez began teaching at Cooper City High School in 2004. Nine years ago, she began going on trips with students through the EF program for educational tours. Since then, she has had her passport stamped in places such as New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica, and Fiji.
“I believe her trips help her understand her students and learn more about them,” Freshman Kairen Alvarez said. “She gets to know how her students think and live by seeing them outside of school.”
Starting June 16th, 2017, Mrs. Perez will be embarking on an 18 day trip through Italy and Greece. The cost includes airfare, meals, excursions and sightseeing, hotels, transportation, a full-time tour director, and local guides. She will be visiting cities such as Florence, Rome, Venice, Pompeii, Athens, and Santorini.
To sign up or just get more information, students can contact Mrs. Perez or visit her eftours.com web page using the code “1800258wm.” Payment options, an in-depth itinerary, and many more resources can be found on the website. Families are able to pay in installments to make the payment process more convenient.
Students who cannot make it this upcoming summer can still go in the future. In 2018, Mrs. Perez is planning to travel to England and Ireland. Those interested in touring Dublin and London can visit Mrs. Perez in room 3404 to learn more.
