Recap: Cooper City High School Vs. Cypress Bay High School/Miramar High School

On Wednesday September 7th, the Boys and Girls Varsity Swimming team had a meet against Cypress Bay and Miramar High School. Cypress came up on top in most of the events, but it was still a neck and neck meet between the teams. In the 200m individual medley, CCHS swimmer Kathleen Golding had a great start to the meet and took gold. In the 50 meter swim, Solana Capalbo won. The lady Cowboys also won in the 200m medley relay, adding more points to the overall score.  

Once it came to the 400m Freestyle Relay, the Cowboys took second place as well as second in the 200m Freestyle Relay.  Boys swimmer Ivan Capalbo placed   Overall it was a close meet against the Lightning.  Cypress came on top with many points in races where they placed second and third which added up over the Cowboys first place wins.  

Recap: Cooper City High School Vs. Western High School/Everglades High School

On Wednesday September 14th, girls and boys competed in a swim meet against Western and Everglades High School. Cooper City won first place in many events which gave them the upper hand throughout the meet. In the 200 meter swim, girls individual medley, Solana Capalbo took first place. Capalbo also took gold in the 100 meter breaststroke. When it came down to the freestyle relays, Cooper City boys and girls won the 400m race.  The Boys also won the 200 meter, placing them higher than both Western and Everglades.  Ivan Capalbo won first place in both the 50 meter freestyle and the 100 meter breaststroke.  

“Placing first in the 50m was very significant because it played a very important role in defeating Western,” Swimmer Ivan Capalbo said.  

The meet ended in a success for CCHS, as the Boys and Girls scored higher than Western and Everglades. CCHS Girls won 128-35 against Everglades High School and 101-65 against Western High School. CCHS Boys won 118-46 against Western High School and 126-35 against Everglades High School. As the year progresses, both the Boys and Girls set high goals going into Districts.  

“Our team’s goal for this season is to beat Cypress in districts, and that will make us district champs,” Capalbo said. “Another goal that we have is to take as many swimmers as we can to states, and that hopefully our relays can also go to states.”
