The American rock band, Weezer, has announced The White Album. The album has been described as a Beach Boys-inspired LP and is set for release on April 1st. Along with the announcement, the band has released a music video for “King of the World,” the newest of the three tracks from the album released so far.
The tracks on the album are as follows:
- California Kids
- Wind in Our Sail
- Thank God for Girls
- (Girl We Got A) Good Thing
- Do You Wanna Get High?
- King of the World
- Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori
- L.A. Girlz
- Jacked Up
- Endless Bummer
“Thank God for Girls” and “Do You Wanna Get High?” both released within a week of each other in the fall of 2015, under the pretense that they were singles and would not be attached to a full release album. The former faced mixed reactions while the latter was hailed as a possible return to the band’s Pinkerton era, a time when the band was defined by a distinct, raw sound and meaningful lyrics. Upon its release, “King of the World” gained intrigue as a departure for the band, a pure pop work akin to the more lighthearted works of their self-titled The Green Album. Within a month of the album announcement, Weezer has released the music video for another song off the white album, “L.A. Girlz.” Calling back to their debut Blue Album, many have come to praise the song for its incredible composition and nostalgic guitar solo.
When discussing the album’s inspiration, Weezer frontman and songwriter, Rivers Cuomo, cited:
“Obviously, my favorite band has always been the Beach Boys, and what I love about them most are the melodies and the chord progressions. I guess the harmonies too. And the orchestration. Can’t forget about the lyrics. So basically everything. I wanted to get that kind of vibe: beautiful tunes and sweet lyrics. I also love the dark side of the beach – Venice after dark, hearing at the Del Monte Speakeasy about how the gangsters used to drag the bodies through the catacombs and leave them under the pier.”

Amidst the song debut and album announcement, Weezer revealed a summer tour with “Panic! At The Disco” and “Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness,” with two Florida showings planned in Miami and Tampa. To see further tour dates and locations, visit http://weezer.com/tour.
Weezer has shown promise with their recent album Everything Will Be Alright In The End, and while song titles like “Jacked Up” are foreboding, “Do You Wanna Get High?” and “King of the World” are both incredible enough to keep expectations reasonably high for Weezer’s The White Album.
