Review: Gravity

Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity features superstars Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone and George Clooney as astronaut Matt Kowalsky.  Stone is on her first trip into space and Kowalsky is on his final trip.  While they are up there the space ship blows up and Dr. Stone and Kowalsky are tethered together.  The two of them are all alone and spiraling out of control into oblivion.

Gravity is visually appealing and its presentation in 3D made it all the more worthwhile.  The visual effects and cinematography leaves viewers in complete awe.  A variety of camera angles help to portray the story, so that even during silent scenes the audience is engaged.  Breathtaking shots included the long shot of the sunrise over the earth, close ups of Bullock which portray all her emotions and long shots of the space ship accident. The movie does an excellent job of showing how big and empty that space really is.  With the movie shown in 3D, the audience can really connect with how the characters feel in that situation.

Aside from being visually appealing, Gravity told a great story.  It’s a story of emotional distress and survival.  The movie maintains a consistent tone throughout it’s running time and it really captures the attention of the audience.  Although the plot is simple the story behind it shines.  Gravity can even be called an experience and raises the bar on what films should be.

Overall, Gravity has great visual effects and is the ultimate moviegoing experience.  It makes you grab the edge of your seat consumed in the movie.  It’s a great accomplishment and I highly recommend others to watch this marvelous film.
