Review: Tamar Kaprelian

Tamar Kaprelian is a new pop star, who has just put out her debut album Sinner or a Saint.  She has gained most of her fame so far from her online cover of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” as well as the single “New Day”.  This is the beginning for Tamar Kaprelian, and it’s an excellent beginning at that.

The album has a few overall messages in the lyrics that involve finding love and finding happiness, all portrayed poetically, through beautiful words that just make the music seem even more magnificent. The album itself has a pretty feeling to it, not the type of pretty you’d find in typical glamour, but more of a genuine beauty, that’s difficult to find in most popular music.  Tamar Kaprelian has talent, beauty, and soul put into her debut.

Sinner or a Saint is filled with great tracks that sound straight from the heart.  “New Day” is a hopeful sounding song with an acoustic guitar opening that sounds really beautiful.  That leads into an orchestral backing, which fits quite nicely, especially with Kaprelian’s sweet voice.  “Delicate Soul” is catchy, cool, upbeat, and truly a pop song. “Raining in Paradise” is slow, mellow, and full of spirit.

The entire album feels like there was much authentic feeling not only put into the lyrics, but also the music.  Orchestras, piano, and acoustic guitar are all present to contribute to the beauty the writing has to offer.

Along with all the raw feeling and splendor of Sinner or a Saint, there are some flaws.  The majority of the songs are slow paced, which causes monotony while listening to it as a whole.  This could be problematic for someone listening to the entire album track to track, however, individually, the songs are all fantastic.

Tamar Kaprelian proves herself to be quite the star in the making on her debut.  Sinner or a Saint is a good start for an amazing singer and fame should be inevitable at this point.
