On Thursday March 11th, the CCHS Boys Lacrosse Team went head to head against South Plantation. The bleachers were booming with fans and parents alike. It was senior night, an evening dedicated to the seniors on the team for their hard work and devotion throughout the years and to wish them well for life after graduation.
The game had an exhilarating start, with both teams showing tight defense and excellent plays. Early on in the first half, Cooper City’s Eddie Calderon was hit hard from the side by Plantation’s number 3. The trainer was called over immediately to checkout his injury. Eventually, Calderon was taken off the field and was unable to resume play for the rest of the game. The game continued with Plantation having total control of the ball and the tempo. Eventually Plantation managed to squeeze a goal past Cooper City goalie Gavin Juelich. However, despite the Cowboys slow start, they began to get into a nice rhythm and finally Cooper City’s Kyle Pumariega was able to put one into the back of Plantations net. This was how the rest of the first half went, with constant back and forth scoring from both teams.
After the first half, the seniors were escorted on the field by their friends and family. Everyone paid their respects, and thanked them for all their team spirit, dedication, and perseverance with the team.
The beginning of the second half brought new life to both teams with Kyle Pumariega scoring again, along with Plantation’s number 4 answering with a goal of his own. With time slowly counting down, Plantation had the lead with Cooper City right on their tail down by 1 goal. With seconds left on the clock, Cooper City tried one last goal attempt to even up the game and hopefully send the game into overtime. Unfortunately the Cowboys missed the goal by inches, and with that went their chance of winning. The final score was South Plantation 7 Cooper City 6.
