CCHS held their annual Powderpuff football game, where the girls play football and the boys act as cheerleaders, as part of Homecoming Week on Tuesday, November 9th.
The games kicked off at 3:30 p.m., when the Class of 2012 took on the Class of 2014 (juniors versus freshmen). After countless interceptions and successful throws by quarterbacks Keirsten Legacki and Ella Weinkie, the juniors dominated and shut out the freshmen, with a final score of 60-0.
The second game featured the Class of 2011 against the Class of 2013 (seniors versus sophomores). After many attempts to run the ball, the sophomores could not get past the seniors’ strong defense. The seniors’ claimed victory of the second game, with a score 26-0.
The highly anticipated game between the rival seniors and juniors proved to be well worth the wait. Although the seniors stayed strong throughout the game, their effort wasn’t enough. Wide Receiver Jazmin Green scored both of the juniors’ touchdowns.
In the end, the class of 2012 emerged victorious over the seniors with a final score of 13-0, proudly taking home their second consecutive PowderPuff Championship.
“I was so proud of my team,” junior Arianne Colabella said. “It was a combination of everyone playing hard on both offense and defense.”
As for the cheerleaders, the boys were hardly amateurs. Despite outstanding performances from both the sophomore and junior classes, the senior boys won over the crowd with their hilarious dance to a mix of popular songs. Through the combination of successful football games and hilarious cheer routines, the night proved to be a success for the fans and players.
