Grim news from the fantasy football world at the conclusion of week 8: my team was handed its first loss of the season by the last place team. It also didn’t help that three of my best players were on a bye week. But hey, that’s football for you.

Best

  • RB: Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Wow. What a game for the rookie out of Boise State. He had 135 yards on the ground and a touchdown. He also added 3 catches for 79 yards and another touchdown. Great performance, especially for a rookie.
  • TE: Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots: I guess it doesn’t matter what country the patriots play in. Even when playing in London, they still looked like, well, the patriots. Gronkowski caught 8 balls for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Worst

  • RB:Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs: The chiefs have been a disaster on offense this year, but Charles has usually been pretty consistent. However, he was bottled up by a decent Oakland running defense for a total of four yards on the ground. I repeat : FOUR YARDS. I don’t even need to explain any further.
  • WR: Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions: I knew walking into this season that Megatron wasn’t going to replicate his impressive 2011 season, but I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Johnson has only found the end zone once all season, and on Sunday he only had three catches for 46 yards. I leave you with this: Jaguars offensive tackle ,Guy Whimper, now has as many touchdown catches as Calvin Johnson this season.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I love the NFL because of fantasy football. I end up watching every game on TV just to see how my players do. I never miss a game. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
