It was an exciting first week in fantasy football. It brought many of its player’s joy, and it brought many of its players sorrow, including myself. Not one of my players reached their projections, and my bench almost outscored my starters. Anyways, enough complaining about my team. Here are some surprises and disappointments in week 1.

Surprises:

· RB: C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills: After running back Fred Jackson was knocked out of the game, Spiller took 14 carries a total of 169 yards and for one TD.  Not just any touchdown, it was a  very impressive 59 yard run. He has the talent necessary to be a great fantasy back, and with Jackson out at least a month, we’re looking for Spiller to continue these monster numbers.

· QB: Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins: I have to give credit where credit is due. It was Griffin’s debut NFL game as a rookie and he was playing in one of the toughest places to play: the Superdome in New Orleans. However, the pressure didn’t seem to faze him at all. Griffin was 19/26 for 320 yards and 2 TD’s, one of which was an 88 yard pass to Pierre Garcon. He also added 42 rush yards to that total, and won the offensive player of the week award, making him the first ever rookie to win that award on his debut.

Disappointments:

· RB: Trent Richardson, Cleveland Browns: You would think that with the Brown’s dismal offense that they would try to give the talented rookie Richardson as many touches as possible. However, he only had a total of 20 touches (19 on the ground and 1 catch). He’s about as strong of a running back as they come, but he was held to 44 total yards by a decent Eagles defense.

· RB: DeAngelo Williams, Panthers: It doesn’t get much worse than this. He had 6 attempts for -1 yards, and one catch for 5 yards. This is definitely not what everyone expected from Carolina’s number 1 back. I guess it’s not entirely his fault considering the Panthers just stopped running the ball when they started losing, but never the less, it’s still a terrible start for Williams.

That’s all for week one. I hope you enjoyed the first week back to the wonderful stressfulness fantasy football has to offer.
