CCHS students and coaches have always taken sports very seriously. Each season the teams work hard and perform their best to advance to the district, regional and state levels. These dedicated athletes have taken part in one of the most exciting spring seasons the school has seen. Let’s wrap up the school year with a look back at some of the most memorable moments.
Varsity Softball
Final record: 10-2
Most memorable moment: Beating St. Thomas twice this season, one of the best teams Cooper City plays all season.
Standout player: Jessica Simonpietri – “Jessica had an amazing year on the team,” Shannon Allen said. “She had to step up big when both of our pitchers were unable to perform. She had the most heart on the field and it shows in her game.”
Accomplishments: Made it to Districts and Regionals.
Varsity Baseball
Final record: 9-11
Most memorable moment: “Beating South Broward twice this season was big,” junior Brian Cohen said. South Broward is a large rival of Cooper City, so a season sweep was a cause for celebration.
Standout player: Chris Beaton – “Chris plays hard every game and every practice,” Cohen said.
Accomplishments: Made it to Districts.
Girls’ Water Polo
Final record: 14-3
Most memorable moment: Beating Cypress Bay in overtime was a significant accomplishment because Cooper City scored the final goal with no time to spare.
Standout player: Emily Aron – “She’s the best goalie in the county,” senior Kayla Lokeinsky said. “She’s the backbone of the team and helps lead us to victory.”
Accomplishments: Made it to Districts.
Boys’ Water Polo
Final record: 13-0
Most memorable moment: When they won their last game and knew they sealed an undefeated season.
Standout player: Matt Plunkett – Matt is a senior that was highly dedicated to the sport and helped lead the team to an undefeated season.
Accomplishments: Had an undefeated season, making it to Districts and Regionals.
Girls’ Tennis
Final record: 5-3
Most memorable moment: Overcoming adversity and playing West Broward without their third and fourth seed players, yet still taking home a win.
Standout player: Adi Braha – “Definitely Adi, because she always fought for every single point, even when she was losing,” junior Amanda Yellen said.
Accomplishments: Came in 3rd in Districts.
Boys’ Tennis
Final record: 5-3
Most memorable moment: “The most memorable part of the season was districts,” junior Vincent Ong said. “Everyone played hard and won some good matches.”
Standout player: Austin Taylor – “Austin stood out as the strongest,” Ong said. “Even though he wasn’t the top player, he was really reliable and we could always count on him to win. He only lost one match, which was to Cypress.”
Accomplishments: The team made it to Districts and came in 3rd. Most importantly, they felt they have gotten better both mentally and physically and will come back even stronger next season.
Girls’ Track
Final record: No wins
Most memorable moment: “The most memorable moment was probably the first track meet because everyone was nervous, excited and anxious,” junior Cassianne Stadler said.
Standout player: Cassianne Stadler – “Cassianne would score points for the girls’ team all the time,” junior Shelby Turner said. “And she was one of the few dedicated people who came to every practice.
Accomplishments: Became closer as a team and came up with new strategies for success for next year.
Boys’ Track
Final record: No wins
Most memorable moment: “The Districts meet was pretty memorable because we were there from 1 pm to 11:30 pm; it was the latest our two mile runners ever ran,” junior Niko Ouano said.
Standout player: Jarret Morgan – “Jarret was a really good 400m sprinter,” Ouano said. “He also won a majority of the races he ran, which really makes him standout.”
Accomplishments: Made it to the District meet and became a better team altogether.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Final record: 5-8
Most memorable moment: The first win of the season “was euphoric in that all our work had finally paid off; we had been waiting for that moment for two years,” junior Kelly Loffredo said. “It proved that our dedication and our positive attitudes finally led us to success.”
Standout player: Sierra Spanger – “Sierra, our starting goalie, made numerous saves in tense games,” Loffredo said. “Without her, our team wouldn’t be what it is. She always came to games positive and pumped everyone up.”
Accomplishments: The team won for the first time in CCHS history. Their multiple wins proved to be a big deal for the team.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Final record: 9-4
Most memorable moment: Opening the season with a big win against Archbishop McCarthy boosted the team’s confidence.
Standout player: Brandon Perlman – “On attack, Brandon Perlman led the team in goals,” senior Hunter Wild said. “He also stepped it up by playing through injuries.”
Accomplishments: Came in 3rd in Districts.
Flag Football
Final record: 5-2
Most memorable moment: Beating Western, one of their rivals, in one of the first district games, allowing the team to move forward in Districts.
Standout player: Kirby Legacki – “Kirby stood out the most,” junior Erica Hausdorff said. “She is not only the quarterback, but also is an inspiring athlete to play with.”
Accomplishments: Was undefeated and made it to
Districts.
Boys’ Volleyball
Final record: 7-5
Most memorable moment: “Definitely beating Cypress Bay High School after they beat us earlier in the season,” junior Cory Bunce said. Cypress Bay beat the volleyball team earlier in the season 3-0, but Cooper City came back this game and won 3-1.
Standout player: Dan Heintz – “Dan has been a huge factor in each of our wins this season,” Bunce said. “He comes out each game and plays his hardest, which is what makes him so valuable.”
Accomplishments: Making it to Districts with only three seniors on the team.
