Operation GLASSES Comes Into Focus

CCHS students Brianne Rogosin, Marissa Cohen, and Jessica Weaver collected used spectacle frames to redistribute to those in need across the world in December with a project named Operation GLASSES.

GLASSES is an acronym that stands for Giving Light and Sight So Everyone Sees.

“We first became involved with the Operation GLASSES when we heard about the success it had at the school my mom teaches at,” junior Brianne Rogosin said. “We wanted to start a collection of our own at CCHS.”

Rogosin, Cohen and Weaver collected the glasses as their DECA community service project, with the help of NHS and Key Club.

“We’re accepting all varieties of glasses, anything from sunglasses or old eyepieces with no lenses in them,” Cohen said. “Any frames are appreciated.”

The frames collected on campus were given to local eyeglass retailer, Lens Crafters, who turned them over to a charitable organization called OneSight. OneSight removes the lenses and transports the frames to various countries whose citizens can’t afford their own glasses. There are currently fourteen OneSight centers around the world with American volunteer doctors stationed in them. At the centers, the doctors provide full eye exams and fit those in need with the lenses prescribed.

“We have high hopes for Operation GLASSES,” Rogosin said. “With active contributions, this program has the potential to have a positive impact.”
