After starting off the season at 3-0, the Cowboys entered Friday nights game looking to continue their dominance on the field and win their first district game of the season as the took on the Nova Titans at home.
Senior running back Camden Krohn led the Cowboys toward the end zone on the teams opening drive, and with 7 minutes left in the first quarter Krohn scored the Cowboys first touchdown of the game on a big run. Soon after the Cowboys made a critical mistake, on a punt attempt with 2 minutes left in the first quarter, the snap sailed into and out of the end zone resulting in a safety, making the score 7-2.
Even with this error, the Cowboys continued to take control of the field. A few minutes later, Tyson Burch recovered a Nova fumble for a big touchdown opening up the Cowboys lead to 14-2 in the second quarter, but the Cowboys were far from done. After a 40-yard end around to senior Chris Beaton, senior Justin Ingram ran in a 2 yard touchdown giving the Cowboys a 21-2 lead with 3 and a half minutes left in the first half.
The Cowboy’s defense was great, rarely giving the Titans opportunities to score and giving the Cowboy’s offense plenty of time on the field. Krohn again had a huge play in the end of the third quarter, scoring on a 15 yard run in which he stiff armed a would-be tackler to the ground on his way to the end zone giving the Cowboys a 35-2 lead. The final score was CCHS 42, Nova 2.
Aside from the early mistake, which resulted in a safety, the Cowboys are making their way towards earning their second straight district title.
