Cooper City High School’s Inter-Organization Council (IOC) met recently to decide how to spend the school’s recently acquired A+ money.
A+ money is funding granted from the state of Florida intended for employee bonuses and school improvements for schools that were graded an “A”. Student attendance, grades, and performance on state and national tests are all contributing factors to which schools receive this money, and how much.
CCHS was granted a total of $250,000, with 90% of that going to teachers and staff in the form of one-time bonuses. The spending of the remaining $25,000 was decided by the I.O.C.
CCHS is not new to receiving A+ money, they have been granted the funding numerous years in the past.
“In the past we used the A+ money to purchase the school’s marquee sign, the red awning, and the new benches and tables outside,” Principal Wendy Doll said.
Some proposals from the meeting were LED lights for the auditorium, an outdoor sound system for the patio of the new cafeteria, portable and permanent carts for the new cafeteria’s activity room, and adding smoke alarms to the bathrooms.
The final decision was reached by a majority vote at the IOC/ SGA (Student Government Association) meeting held on Wednesday, May 25. The attendants of the meeting choose to make replacing the lights in the auditorium the first priority, and purchasing lockable carts for the cafeteria’s activity room the second priority.
