Will Kylie Jenner continue to “Rise and Shine?”: Jenner gets slammed for attempted trademark

Wherever there appears to be a Kardashian/Jenner sister, controversy seems to follow. On October 10, the “self-made” billionaire released a tour of her cosmetics office. This extraordinary office tour included Jenner going into her daughter Stormi’s room and singing “Rise and Shine.” This later sparked the now-viral “Rise and Shine” TikTok meme. The hashtag #RiseandShine received over one billion views, making it the fastest-growing hashtag on that platform.

Many people then turned to all social media platforms to share their thoughts about the “Rise and Shine” meme. Even other large celebrity names, such as Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, turned to social media to take part in the fun. Grande even shared a cover of the “song” to her 166 million followers on Instagram.

As the meme sharing continued, Jenner saw this as a business opportunity. And wherever there is a business opportunity, there is always a Jenner. After the ongoing attention that the “Rise and Shine” meme had received on various platforms, Jenner jumped on the opportunity to make a profit. Jenner released her “Rise and Shine” meme-inspired merchandise line featuring $65 hoodies with the words “Rise and Shine” on the sleeves, which sold out in seconds. 

Some considered the hoodies to be overpriced and claimed that Jenner was taking advantage of her fans. Some even barked at the fact that she continues to remain money-hungry even though she has been named a “self-made” billionaire.

As the meme sharing continued, Jenner saw this as a business opportunity. And wherever there is a business opportunity, there is always a Jenner.

It didn’t stop there for her though. Jenner filed a trademark application for the words “Rise and Shine.” If Jenner’s application happens to be accepted, it will be applied to all of her future merchandise based on the meme. This left some outraged because those words were invented before Jenner even existed. 

However, after the launch of Jenner’s merchandise, people didn’t hold back and rumors quickly began to spread. The Australian newspaper, The Gold Coast Bulletin falsely reported that Jenner had sent a cease and desist letter to Cased Clothing brand due to selling clothing with the words “Rise and Shine” on it.

Shortly after both Jenner and Cased Clothing took to Twitter and Instagram to address and shut down these rumors. 

Now that the drama has been addressed, it is up to Jenner to decide whether or not she still sees this as a business opportunity or if continued work relating to the “Rise and Shine” meme will hinder her career. Her decision will most likely be determined based on if her trademark application is accepted or not. Either way, it is up to Jenner to decide if she will continue to “rise and shine.”
