On Thursday 2/24, the boys and girls track and field teams hosted Deerfield Beach and South Broward in their first track meet of the season.
The event began with the field events for the boys team (long jump, high jump, discuss, and shot put) and the 4×800 meter relay. South Broward and Deerfield Beach began the meet with big wins in the field events and the first three races.
In the 1600 meter race, Cooper City’s Will Dean won first place with a time of 5:08.
Over the next few running events, South Broward began to pull away from Deerfield Beach and Cooper City. Deerfield tried fighting back and caught up slowly to South Broward.
Cooper City didn’t give up either. In the 3200 meter race, Nassor Whitehead got the win with a time of 11:12. Ultimately, despite of how placed in individual events, the Cowboys fell to both Deerfield Beach and South Broward, with a final score of South Broward 97, Deerfield Beach 87, and Cooper City 45.
The Cooper City girls’ team were more successful in their first meet of the year. The girls began the meet by grabbing first place finishes in three of the four field events.
In the 4×100 meter relay, a miscue by South Broward caused the Cowboys to take the first place finish and get more points for the team.
Other first place finishes for the girls’ team included the 1600 meter run and the 100 meter hurdles. In the end, the multiple first place finishes and other places by the team helped to put the Cowboys on top. The final score was Cooper City 90, South Broward 63, and Deerfield Beach 29. The team’s record sits at a perfect 2-0.
Both the boys and girls teams will compete again on Wednesday March 2 at home beginning at 4 p.m.
