Cowboys swimming: The ultimate champions

The CCHS swimming team has been known to place in events, especially states. On Saturday, November 10 the Cooper City Cowboys made their way to Stuart, Florida for their state competition. The Cowboys had seven people place at states this year, four of which placed in the top ten.

“The team was great this year,” senior Aaron Blanco said. “All of our swimmers have been improving and I feel like our season has gone really well.”

CCHS had four girls qualify for states this year. Senior swimmer, Kathleen Golding, advanced to states both this year and the previous year. Last year, she placed first in the 200 individual medley (IM) and second in the 100 free. This year, she claimed a medal once again by placing second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 free. Kathleen Golding just recently signed to the University of Florida and has also participated in the Olympic trials.

Following in her footsteps, sophomore Molly Golding also took the road to states this year. She placed 16th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 100 breast. Molly also went to states last year and placed 12th in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 breast. Another swimmer, Mallory Schleicher, placed in 10th for the 500 free. Lastly, Kate Kaplan came in 23rd for the 100 breast.

“It was a lot of fun,” Molly Golding said. “The entire team got a lot closer and the season was very successful.”

Following the girls, there were three boys who made it to states this year. Javier Roman placed 18th in the 100 breast. Meanwhile, Robby Wilson played 21st in the 50 free and 21st in the 100 free. Finally, the diver placed fourth overall for the Cowboys.

The CCHS swim teams made sure to eat right, rest well and perform properly in order to achieve the highest placement. The Cowboys look forward to continuing to practice as a team as well as on their own in order to send more swimmers to states next year.

“My favorite thing about the swimming team at Cooper City High School was the friends and the memories that I made,” Kathleen Golding said.
