Cowboys take on West Broward Bobcats: 10/25 football game ends in 43-46

Nearing the end of the Cowboy football season, the Cowboys played in one of their final district games, against the West Broward Bobcats, on Thursday, October 25. The final score of the game was 43-36 with a Bobcat win.  This game was crucial for the Cowboys because they need to win as many district games as they can in order to continue on to the district playoffs.

The whistle blew and the Cowboys kicked off. Then, within the first five minutes of the game the score was 15-0, and the Bobcats had the lead. The Bobcats came out extremely hard and put tons of pressure on the Cowboy defense.

The Cowboys didn’t appear to be giving up. Arthur Brefil scored on an 82-yard rush, then quarterback Jack O’Malley scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak play. Finishing up the first quarter, the Cowboys had two of their starting players, Braden Long and Brefil, go down with injuries. Just at the end of the first half, the Bobcats had the ball and with less than a minute left, Corey Silverberg intercepted the ball– not letting the Bobcats have an opportunity to score.

“Two guys we crucially needed in this game were Arthur Brefil and Braden Long,” Griffin Hemingway said. “Even without them we put up a good fight, but I think this game could have gone a different way if we had them.”

The Cowboys had to work hard offensively and defensively the entire game, trying to play catch up. The Cowboys were down by just a few points all game. Mark Fontana and Isaiah Janvier both scored in the third quarter, trying to bring their team up.

Fontana then scored again in the fourth quarter and completed the two-point conversion to tie the game 36-36. From then on, the Bobcats defeated the Cowboy defense. The Cowboys ended up losing by one touchdown. With this loss, the Cowboys have essentially finished up their season and will have one last game next week.

The Cowboys faced many obstacles throughout the game, having multiple players go down with injuries and more, but in the end the Cowboys managed to score more points this game than they did all season. It was a Cowboy loss but there was a lot to learn and take away from this game.
