Wrapping up the Lady Cowboys regular soccer season, the girls faced off against the Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars on Thursday, January 18. Coming back from senior night, the girls had their first ever tie of the season, ending the game 1-1. This was their last game before heading into districts next week.

“We plan to keep up our work ethic and teamwork,” Jenee McPhail said. “Hopefully we win it all this year.”

The Cowboys started the game off with the ball, taking control early on by keeping the ball for the most part. The Jaguars quickly received a free kick from a foul made by the Cowboys and scored, taking the lead 1-0. This gave the Jaguars some momentum, taking the ball from the Cowboys and maintaining ball possession in the defensive third of the field. The Cowboys could not seem to come together and make passes to the right spots. Although in practice the Cowboys had been working on more ball movement, there was a  constant defensive battle for the first 40 minutes of the game.

Coming back from halftime, the Cowboys knew what was at stake. They had to bring their all because they had to show what they were made of before districts. The Cowboys had their eyes set on a goal. Kimberly Slinkosky had her first game back since she broke her elbow, already giving it her all with a break away to goal, just missing the right corner of the net. With five minutes left, the Cowboys were still down but never gave up. Victoria Ramos then came in to score the final goal of the game, leaving with a tie.

Although it was not a victory, the Cowboys were finally faced with a higher level team, forcing them to raise their standards and get a look into what districts will be like.

Final score: Cooper City 1, Pines Charter 1
