On Wednesday, November 15 the CCHS Lady Cowboys played in their third game of the season. They made their way to Flanagan High School to play at 6:00, where they won the game with a score of 6-3.
The Falcons started with the ball, putting immediate pressure on the Cowboys’ defense. The Falcons tested out the goalie’s skills, taking a shot 45 seconds into the game in hopes to score. After two minutes into the game, Vikki Ramos scored off a cross, hit in by Annie Clark. The Cowboys picked up the momentum after this, now playing with more confidence. Flanagan had an opportunity to score, but defense and midfield worked together to prevent that from happening. Berlin Rodriguez got the ball in the Falcon corner and crossed the ball in as Ramos tried to put a foot on the ball. Minutes later, on a new play, Ramos was called offsides. This free kick put the ball in the Cowboy half, giving the Falcons a one-on-one with the Cowboys goalie. However, Cooper City’s outside back defender came and saved the day by taking the ball right off the West Broward player’s foot. Just minutes later, the Falcons managed to put the ball in the back of the net, making the game 1-1. Kimberly Slinkosky then got the ball and went into Flanagan’s box trying to score, but got tangled up with the goalie. The goalie was left hurt on the ground, having to walk off the field after getting injured.
The game then resumed at a goal kick. The Cowboys got control of the ball and got back up the field. Clark then sent the ball to Slinkosky who then scored, making it 2-1. Coming back from just getting scored on, the Falcons put high pressure on the Cowboys as they passed the ball back to their own goalie. The Falcon player took the ball and shot on the goal, making the game 2-2. This left the Cooper City keeper and Flanagan forward on the ground after colliding, allowing Hailey Brown to now go in as goalie. The game was left at 2-2 as the whistle was blown for half-time.
Cooper City started back up with ball and an early shot was taken by Clark, creating high pressure and tension between both teams. A foul was called in the Flanagan half, allowing Jasmine O’herra to score off a free kick making it 3-2. The Falcons came back and scored after beating the entire defense, making the game tied at 3-3. Paulina Lopez went on to take a shot, which could not do anything but help the team. Finally, a goal was scored by Ramos, now making the score 4-3. Following this, Slinkosky and Sarah Walker were each able to score a goal for the Cowboys.
After a long game and a lot of intense moments, the Cowboys managed to come out on top. They look forward to a good season, and hope to win districts just like they did last year. It was a good win for the Cowboys and all of their new talent.
”We have a few new players so we need to build our chemistry, but there is a lot of talent on the team,” Ramos said.
Final score: Cooper City 6, Flanagan 3
