Varsity football: Cowboys take on West Broward

The football team lined up, shoulder to shoulder, to create a path for the seniors to walk down as their names were called. The seniors all lined up with their families and escorts, ready to walk down the line to have their picture taken to commemorate their moment. Many tears were shed from players and families as they began to realize how fast their high school years have come to an end. After senior night festivities, concluded the Cowboys got ready to face West Broward in a game that would decide whether the Cowboys would move on to the district tournament.

On Saturday, October 28, the Cowboys were supposed to play West Broward for their senior night game. Due to the weather conditions, the game was cancelled and rescheduled to Monday, October 30. The Cowboys faced off against the Bobcats at 7 p.m. on Monday, but it did not end in favor of the Cowboys. The Bobcats beat Cooper City with a score of 54 to 21.

The Bobcats came out strong and were able to stay strong throughout the entirety of the game. The first quarter started off with the Cowboys kicking the ball off to West Broward. The kickoff was returned to the Cowboys 44 yard line, getting West Broward in close enough vicinity to score on third down. The Cowboys could not stop the Bobcats allowing them to score and putting the score at 7 to 0 in the first quarter. West Broward kicked off the ball to Cooper City, but was able to put up a stop and cause the Cowboys to punt the ball off to avoid turning the ball over rather close to the touchdown. With the Bobcats back in possession of the ball, they were able to make plays and put another six points up on the scoreboard. The Cowboys were able to block the field goal and keep the score 13 to 0 with five minutes left in the first quarter.

West Broward was able to make another stop, getting the ball back once again. They were able to put another seven points up on the board with seven minutes left until halftime. Cooper City got the ball back from the kick off and was carried by DiLiello for the first down. The next pass was complete to Kobie Simmons for a gain of 21 yards, making it first and goal. DiLiello was on the carry and was able to bring the team seven points, putting the score at 7 to 20 with one minute and 55 seconds left in the first half. With the Bobcats back in possession of the ball, they were able to take advantage and score another touchdown, putting them 20 points ahead (27 to 7). The Cowboys got the ball back, but the ball was fumbled by the Cowboys at the five yard line and recovered by West Broward at the 7 yard line. The Bobcats were able to score again with 47 seconds left in the first half ending the half with a score of 33-7.

In the second half, the Cowboys were able to score two more touchdowns, while West Broward was able to score three more, finishing the game with a score of 54-21.
