Marking the end of the regular season, the Cooper City Cowboys held their Senior Night against the Flanagan Falcons. As the Cowboys commemorated their seniors for great careers at Cooper City High School, they also managed to wrestle the Falcons to victory.

On Thursday, February 9th, Coach Sodergren honored Seniors Connor Jones, Liam Jones, Bryce Wilson, Bobby Oldershaw, Dylan Espinosa, and Kyle Thompson for their accomplishments both on and off the mats.

Due to an unexpected event, in which many of the Falcons players did not show up to the meet, only two Cowboys were given the opportunity to wrestle. Captain of the wrestling team, Liam Jones, wrestled the Falcon opponent in the 152 lb weight class. Connor easily took down his opponent with impressive moves to win all 3 rounds. This win added to Liam’s win total, making it 92 career wins. Afterwards, Senior Bobby Oldershaw wrestled the last of the Falcons’ player in the 170 lb weight division. The first round went back and forth, as each wrestler exchange takedowns, and attempting to pin the other. In the second round, Oldershaw managed to catch his opponent off guard and pin him for the win.

“This season was amazing,” Liam Jones said. “We had to overcome a lot of adversity, and managed to stun many of our opponents. We are going to continue to practice hard and prepare for playoffs.”

As the season concludes, playoff hopes for the Cowboys begin to rise. They will be practicing harder than ever to make a push into the playoffs next week at Everglades High School.
