On Thursday September 19th, our Cowboys faced off against the McArthur Mustangs in what would turn out to be a very competitive game with the Cowboys winning 19-7. This was the Cowboys district opener and their first step on the road to the playoffs.

In the first quarter, the Cowboys defense came out on fire as Senior Cornerback Jackson Nix came up with a swat that broke up a key play. The Cowboys then forced a fumble to switch the momentum their way. For the rest of the first quarter it was the battle of the defenses. Neither offense could sustain a drive, due to the opposing defense being so dominant and the first quarter ended 0-0.

Both defenses continued shutting down the opposing offenses in the second quarter. The first score came on a play where Senior Safety Tyson Burch blocked a McArthur punt with the Cowboys recovering it in the end zone for a touchdown (score 7-0).  Both offenses continued to be quiet with the lone exception being Cowboys Senior Running Back Jarret Morgan busting out for a 30 yd rush. McArthur woke up eventually when Quarterback #10 passed it to Wide Receiver #9 for a touchdown, tying the score 7-7.

The Cowboys were in sync in the third quarter doing they could to pull away with a win. Junior Quarterback Tyler Sabine threw a 25 yd. touchdown pass to Senior Receiver Lukas Volpe to take the lead for the Cowboys (score 13-7). The rest of this quarter was still with neither team able to make any progress.

The floodgates opened in the fourth quarter with rain pouring down and soaking everything. The Cowboys were able to manipulate the Mustangs defense with a vicious run game and they finished off a great drive with Senior Running Back Jarret Morgan scoring a 3 yard rushing touchdown with the final score 19-7.

The rest of this game was full of sloppy play due to the extreme weather. Good Job Cowboys on the win and come out next Friday when the Cowboys play Lexington at Home at 7 PM.

Cooper City is 2-2 in Regular Season play and 1-0 in District Play
