The Cooper City Cowboys faced off against the Cypress Bay Lightning at home on Friday October 4, in the second district game of the year.  Although the Cowboys had an impressive outing, they still came up short and lost the game 24-13.

In the first quarter, the Lightning had the first possession and scored in less than two minutes when Senior Running Back Dylan Rupert ran 45 yards and scored the first touchdown of the game. On the ensuing kickoff, CCHS Senior Wide Receiver Lukas Volpe almost ran straight through to the promised land but was tripped up by his blockers. Nearing the end of the quarter, The Cowboys finally had an opportunity to kick a field goal but Volpe muffed the snap, allowing the Lightning to recover the fumble.

Both teams were a little flat in the second quarter, alternating possessions back and forth. When the Cowboys had another opportunity to make a field goal, Junior Kicker Jonathan Juchtman missed it wide left. Cypress Bay finally got the upper hand and scored a touchdown. Down 14-0, the Cowboys then suffered another blow when Quarterback Tyler Sabine was hit hard and injured. He was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone and will be out for the rest of the season.

In the Third Quarter, Running Back Jarret Morgan capitalized off of great blocking and scored a rushing touchdown to finally put the Cowboys on the board.  With the score 14-7, Lighting kicker Jonathan Semerene then kicked a 53 yard field goal.

In the Fourth Quarter, Cypress Bay had the ball and drove down the field scoring another touchdown.  Answering back, CCHS Quarterback Quest Hopler then threw a beautiful pass to Morgan for an 80 – yard touchdown. Although the Cowboys showed promise toward the end, they were not able to capitalize in time.

The Lightning went on to win the game 24-13. Join us next week when the Cowboys face off against the Flannigan Falcons at Flannigan On Friday October 11th.
